Goal setting podcast

After listening to my podcast I hope you all begin to think about what goals you want to set for yourself. It might sound silly and not worth it, but trust me it is. For me I never was a huge goal setter but once I started questioning what I want to do? how am I going to get there? It switched my mindset completely.

Just like my example about when I didn’t make the varsity team right away, it affected me in a way that motivated me. “It is known that the goal setting process enhances performance levels for all areas, not just athletes. The main aim of goal setting focuses on increasing individuals’ motivational levels to achieve success by directing attention and applying energy levels into achieving the overall goal,” said, Locke & Latham. I think that knowing your passions and knowing what you want in life is the key to happiness. You could go your whole life not knowing what you want to do or not knowing your strength.

The video above is really inspiring and talks about why you should never give up on your dreams and why setting goals is so important.

“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” Zig Ziglar. This really stuck out to me and really made me sit and think about it for a while. You are constantly trying to make the people around you proud and are constantly trying to do things that make you happy and that make you feel “worth it” but you cant just expect to wake up one day and achieve your goals that easy, it takes time and during that time you find out who you truly are as a person.

You need direction in your life and you need to take charge of your life. If you think about all the professional athletes and how they got to where they are today, you know for a fact that they set goals. They knew that they wanted to be an outstanding athlete and they put in the hard work and long days, to accomplish their goals. I think it is important to realize that your goals propel you to do better in life and will prepare you for things along the way.

Picture yourself 10 years from now and think about what you want to be doing and the type of person you want to be. Start setting goals now, because the longer you wait the harder it will be to achieve them.

Being able to work towards something and actually seeing results Is the best feeling! You feel like you are becoming your best self, and you are not only making the people around you proud, but you are feeling proud of yourself.

There needs to be more goal setting by people in this world, so that we do start to see a change.

“Hello Happiness”

Coca – Cola is a brand that we all know and love, it is a brand that we trust and a brand that we know will have the same delicious taste each time we take a sip, but there is something else that is very special about this brand, it helps create “happiness”.

There is one advertisement in particular that caught my eye and it involved Coco-Cola workers traveling to Dubai and placing 5 phone booths in Dubai labor camps for migrant workers who barely got to speak with their families. It showed these workers with dirt all over their clothes and facial expressions that showed pain and sadness, they told Coca-Cola that they love and miss their families and how they can never call them because they make an average of $6 per day and it cost about $1 per minute to call them back home. And that is when Coke decided to give them a few extra minutes of “happiness” by allowing these workers to call their family members. ““I’ve saved one more cap, so I can talk to my wife again tomorrow,” one man told the camera.

These phone booths allowed people to use coke bottle caps as money to call their families and it generated so many emotions around the world.

I know when I watched this for the first time I was in complete shock that this was even possible to do, and how this advertisement was so smart and uplifting that it was bound to succeed. “Coca-Cola is constantly reminding us that we kind of want a nice cold carbonated drink because the idea of drinking one is so much sweeter than the actual beverage,” said, Printsome insights.

It’s promoting a feeling of happiness and spreading love to people you may not even know. Being able to reach your consumers by a feeling and allowing them to connect to a product on an emotional level is the smartest thing you can do when it comes to advertising your brand. I also think that social media is huge when it comes to advertising about Coca-Cola, its allowing people to spread a #hashtag around to generate attention and is “giving companies the ability to reach consumers on a worldwide level through a single platform,” Said, author Shahrzad Warkentin. This campaign was so successful and not only helped promote Coca-Cola but also gave a little bit of “happiness” to people who needed it.

FC Barcelona fútbol game (Personal post)

Dressed in maroon and blue I was ready for this incredible match between Barcelona and Sporting, Lisbon. Walking to the gate I gave my ticket to a nice gentleman who welcomed me into Camp Nou with a big smile on his face, I walked up a few levels of stairs and entered to the most amazing site I had ever seen, an atmosphere that gave me chills. Keep in mind that before this game I really had no interest in soccer and didn’t really pay attention to anything relating to soccer but I knew that here in Barcelona it is one of the biggest things people cherish. Earlier that day I saw multiple people walking around in green and white and I knew that, that was probably the team Barcelona was playing. Anyways, once I made my way to my seat and finally was able to catch my breath I realized I was in the middle of a bunch of Barcelona fans constantly shouting and screaming for their team.

Unknown

The support that these fans had for their team was unbelievable, whenever Barcelona missed a goal they never got mad or disappointed, they kept on cheering louder and louder to show that they wont give up on their team, which was very cool for me to see because in America if our football team misses a field goal or a touchdown we tend to boo our team or get very frustrated this was a very big difference in cultural dimensions between Spain and the United States. Another thing that I did notice was a lack of women at the game I looked around and saw mostly groups of men, when in America I remember going to hockey and football games as a little girl and for me that is a memory I will always remember even though it is considered a “Man” sport.

Being able to experience a FC Barcelona game while studying abroad in this beautiful city was the most amazing experience, just seeing how they interact at a sporting event and seeing how as a culture they are all coming together at one time, in one place was surreal. With so much hate in our world and so many bad things happening around us each day, this game brought me peace and happiness. It’s a way to celebrate with good friends and family and just to forget about the worries you might have. I leave Barcelona in 2 weeks, and will miss this city more than words, the experiences that I will cherish forever especially this FC Barcelona game. Barcelona ended up winning 2-0 against Lisbon with goals by Alcacer and Mathieu.

This team is the best team in the world for a reason they just keep winning and winning, with so many fans full of energy and enthusiasm I was surprised to find out that they didn’t sell alcohol in the stadium especially because everywhere I walk in the city there are bars and clubs everywhere, people are drinking starting at 8am in the morning enjoying a nice cold beer with friends. I actually really liked this concept because even though alcohol “helps you have fun” it still takes away from the general experience. Some similarities that I did see between the Spanish culture and the American culture was the clothing, because in America we wear colors and jerseys to support our team and so did they. Another one is the way that everyone interacted with each-other and came together, I remember hearing the crowd all sing/chant the same thing at the same time and in America at a hockey game or a football game we do the same thing, “becoming one”.

I didn’t really have too many expectations when going to the game, I heard from other people that I MUST go, but didn’t really look into what I was going to experience. You never really know what to expect until you actually do it, that’s one thing I have learned being here, you have to be able to keep an open mind. Before I did go to the game, I actually met a group of young males at a tapas restaurant, they were all wearing Barcelona jerseys, they spoke English and began to tell me how they have season tickets. I thought it was so cool seeing them dressed for the game and overly excited about what they were about to go and experience, after that I knew I had to go to a game.

Overall, this experience was amazing and I would recommend to anyone that they should go andsee a game.

Estrella: Ana Lopez

When I think of good vibes I think of summertime and happiness, I think of positive things alongside of friends and family. After listening to Ana Lopez talk about how Estrella beer is all about a positive image and seeing the advertisements for this product I definitely got in the mood for an Estrella beer. This beer is really aimed at people who want to experience a fun and happy life, it is known for its culture, music and “party time” quoted by Ana, it’s also a “Mediterranean way of life”.

http://https://www.instagram.com/estrelladamm/?hl=en

Estrella used story telling to its advantage and gained hundreds of thousands of views on their YouTube posts that gained so much attention, other companies started to follow what they were doing. Estrella used a Swedish band that no one really knew about and put them in the video to help promote Estrella, this band played a song in the video that became the #1 hit of the summer in Spain and actually helped this band become famous.

Estrella knew that because their first video was such a huge hit, they needed to make another, with famous actress Dakota Johnson. With over 6,500,000 views in 2015 and awarded best YouTube video in Spain, Estrella was exceeding to its highest potential.

After watching this YouTube video I felt so much more connected to the product than I would have if it weren’t for the amazing work done by Ana and the rest of her team creating this video. It helped me connect and really left an emotional impact because of how they created a love story that I could connect to, and how after watching this advertisement I wanted to go out and actually buy Estrella beer.

Mrs. Lopez knew what her digital strategy was for this specific short film and it was to make sure people connected with what was happening in the film. The whole purpose of creating something is so that people around the world can relate to it.

Mrs. Lopez constantly made points throughout her presentation about what Estrella was about and how making people relate even just a little bit to the short film will make them want to go out and buy this beer, that was part of her job and thats how she succeeded.

It as very cool to hear her experiences and to hear what she had to say about Estrella beer, especially in a time of woman empowerment I think that it was pretty amazing to see such a strong, powerful woman in a company that is known worldwide and to know that she was apart of creating something so inspiring.

Facebook & Trump

Donald John Trump  is now our 45th U.S. President, while there are many negative opinions about him, we can’t deny that he was very smart when it came to social media and how he used Twitter and Facebook as his main sites to promote himself and succeed in his presidential campaign. In a statement, Facebook said it offered the campaigns “identical support” and had teams assigned to both Trump and Clinton. “Everyone had access to the same tools,” the company said, adding that it did not let campaigns “hand pick” employees or assign its workers full time to Trump or Clinton. “Both campaigns approached things differently and used different amounts of support,” Facebook said. Facebook is all about advertising and all about generating views, as much as  Mark Zuckerberg wants to deny that Facebook had nothing to do with helping Trump win the election, there is still a lot of speculation that Facebook did influence many voters to go against Hilary Clinton. With so much “fake” news that went on throughout the election people on Facebook pretty much believed just about everything that was being put out there about the presidential election.

“When its information is false, when it is purchased and manipulated to affect the outcome of an election, the effect is enormous,” said the Chicago Tribune “When the information purveyors are associated with a foreign adversary — with a clear interest in the outcome of the American election — we’re into a whole new realm of power.”

trump-buy-a-hat.jpg

Brad Parscale Trumps digital director stated that “’I understood early that Facebook was how Donald Trump was going to win. Twitter is how he talked to the people. Facebook was going to be how he won.” Trumps team knew what they had to do to get peoples attention, they had to use social media and come up with thousands of automated ad’s each day. Trump decided not to use TV advertisements because honestly he was trying to reach a younger target get them out to vote for him. He was smart, he knew that living in an age of technology we are always on our phones constantly checking the news on Facebook and looking to Twitter for updates, he used this to his advantage.

Whether fake news played a part in this presidential election it didn’t matter as much because President Trump used Facebook to really promote himself, he followed in Obamas footsteps to really use social media and Trumps team really made a decision to use Facebook as a source for him winning the election.

Citizen Journalism

Do you trust what people post online? Do you actually read what people post about a certain hotel or a restaurant? Well you should start paying attention because citizen journalism is on the rise and is taking over so many social media sites. We live in a generation where social media is bigger than it has ever been before, and where citizen journalism is only getting bigger from here. Without smartphones we would never know about half of the fatal shootings or certain police brutality attacks on people, these phones are the key to reporting stories that the government or certain higher powers would never approve of. Most recently, citizen videos of the terrorist attacks in Barcelona  showed immediate and personal perspectives of so many different people. Citizen journalism is proving that Journalist aren’t the only gatekeepers and that citizens do have power and we need to start taking advantage of that by being ethical and providing information that people can read/watch and believe it.

Journalist can’t be 10 places at once and a lot of the time they show up after the event happened and weren’t there to actually see what happened. “In many cases, such as during the Arab Spring, journalists can be banned or censored by regimes and individuals that don’t want stories to be published. So citizen journalists with camera phones can be our sole source of first hand information,” said, Chris Measures, author of “Social Media Today.”

There are certain concerns about citizen journalism that many people have, including biased statements. Because they are able to post what they want they also can edit and alter things to make it look much worse or much better than the event really was.

Especially the uprising in the Arab Springs revolutions definitely showed why using citizen journalism was very crucial, because without it the world would have never known what was going on. “Ourselves. Our revolution. We put it on Facebook,” one replied laughing, as if it were a stupid question. “It’s how we tell the world what’s happening,” said, a citizen that took part in the revolution. Citizens were able to capture things that no journalist in their country ever would be able to, due to restrictions. “The movement was a movement of the youth who used technology against their oppressors in order to defeat them. They did this by utilizing social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube in order to organize themselves so that everyone was on the same page, working together towards a common goal. They were able to spread their message not only amongst themselves, but to people all over the world which helped them gain support for their mission,” said, author Sabiha Gire from the Pangaea Journal. Being able to use social media and express what is happening in a non-violent way has helped not only what happened in the Middle East but many other places as well.

Valenti Sanjuan

With over 150k followers on Instagram and over 198k subscribers on YouTube, Valenti Sanjuan has changed the way we look at social media. We are constantly talking about how to gain followers and how to get noticed in the social media world and he knows just the way to do so. “You need great content on your page” he said, “and you can really make a living through social media.” Not only did he mention many tips on how to be successful he talked to us about how sports are a huge thing that has got him to where he is today. Being able to stay healthy and live a lifestyle that people can look up to is something that Sanjuan uses to his advantage.

Unknown.jpeg

He has been all over the world, doing many activities that many of us would think to be impossible, including the famous Ironman that consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bicycle ride and a marathon 26.22-mile run, raced in that order and without a break. He is an inspiration to so many people around the world and has used social media as a platform to show what he is doing, where he is going and why he is doing certain things.

Valenti’s Instagram

Sanjuan spoke about a young man named Andre, he got in an accident where he was ran over by a train and lost both of his legs, but wasn’t going to let something like that get in the way of doing something he loves, which is staying active and not looking at it as a negative but a positive. After watching this video, I was completely shocked and knew that if Andre can do Ironman’s with no legs, then there should be nothing getting in my way.

Andres story

Sanjuan really said something powerful after this video “If you don’t do what you love then don’t do it.” For some reason this really stuck with me and got me thinking about how there have been certain times in my life where I have done things that I don’t love and I was just doing it, to do it.It was amazing for me to listen to Sanjuan speak about all his experiences and tricks he knows about posting the right picture or video on Instagram and YouTube, and how he is using social media sites as a way to connect with people and inspire them to live out there own dream.

MOJO

We all know that in today’s society having a smart phone is everything, being able to film what is happening around the world in an instant is something that we have become so used to. Especially with all the terrorist attacks happening, being able to have your smart phone and filming what is happening and uploading it instantly is way more efficient than having to bring a camera and waiting until you get home to upload something that happened 2 hours prior.Mojo (Mobil journalism) is really a great way to capture something and put it on the internet within seconds of recording it. Being able to live tweet and go live on Facebook are both huge pros of Mojo, and a very smart way to inform people on certain things that are happening. It also cost way less to carry around a phone rather than lugging around all your equipment for a camera. Our world is constantly changing and so are smart phones, each year they become better and better, including the camera quality. Being able to report what is going on so quick and in the moment is honestly mind blowing because 10 years ago this was unimaginable. When I think of Mojo my mind goes right to all the cases of police brutality in the United States, without the use of smart phones we would have never been able to see what had actually happened, especially with the Rodney King case in 1991.king_rodney

Rodney King case

Mojo has way more pros than cons, I understand that the quality might not be as good, but being able to just take your phone out and witness something so powerful by the touch of a record button is way more beneficial and easier than using a big camera.

It is very important to stay informed and i think that the best way to do it is by recording and watching life events happen through your smartphone.

Gives you “wings”

I had never had a real job that I actually enjoyed throughout college, because I was never happy with what I was doing, until I started working on a team that gave people “wings”. I started working at Red Bull my junior year of college and have loved every minute of it. I am apart of the Wisconsin wings team, it is pretty much a promotion/marketing team that travels all over Wisconsin and hands out Red Bull to college students, workers, athletes and regular people relaxing by the park.

There are many misconceptions about this energy drink and as a wings team member I am responsible for changing peoples minds and getting them to try a Red Bull and be satisfied with not only the taste but also the brand.

Working for the wings team has really opened my eyes to how many people actually love and respect Red Bull once they know the facts. When I walk up to fellow college students or businesses they get the biggest smile on their faces and obsess over the fact that I am giving them free Red Bull samples. As apart of the wings team we are required to post on our Instagrams about Red bull and promote the new flavors that we have each month, this is also a huge marketing strategy that has helped Red Bull so much, seeing young college students posting pictures of Red Bull makes other college students want to drink it as well.

I think that the reason I love this job so much is because it really is preparing me for the future, I have learned how to deal with different kinds of people everyday and I have faced many challenges but have dealt with each one in a professional manner just like I will have to in the future.

Me promoting Red Bull:

IMG_3974

Many consumers look up to this brand because of how many athletes drink Red Bull, and promote it while they are doing their sport. Which I think is a great way to get people to also want this product. Surfing Video

“Instead the wall posts focus on images and videos of extreme sports and athletes sponsored by Red Bull. It fits with the brands overall strategy of promoting itself as a lifestyle choice rather than a simple, caffeinated drink” said David Moth, author. This is what makes Red Bull so different and makes the brand really stand out from others trying to compete.

Red Bull’s website

Red Bulls website is also set up in a way that is very interactive and non-linear, and that is what attracts people to go to the website daily, to watch new videos of athletes and to see what sporting events are happening around the world.

When I say “Red Bull gives you wings” I am really asking can I give you a boost of energy? So that you can do whatever you need to do to be successful throughout your day at work or in school or even playing your favorite sport?

SO…Can I give you wings?
